The Tinder Box is an effective and efficient 3-step solution for generating the perfect small starter fire for a home fire pit or camp fire.
I designed and created the Tinder Box to be a simplistic enclosed system that allows the everyday user to light a fire regardless of weather conditions. The Tinder Box is perfect for a home fireplace, family camping trip or backyard BBQ.
Designed from recycled materials, Tinder Box fully disposes of itself, leaving no wastage behind generating a completely eco-friendly way to start a fire.
THE IDEA
Tinder Box is the easy solution to create the perfect small fire for home fire pits or small camp fires in 3 easy steps.
Research
China developed the first match in CE 577 to light fires. Since then, few products have devised a solution to create a simple approach to lighting a camp fire. Other brands offer products that require many steps, toxic chemicals and a working knowledge of how to set up and light a fire properly.
This reveals a gap in the market for an eco-friendly, user intuitive product for a camper of any skill level.
The product needs to be:

The Product
Tinder Box is an enclosed system that allows the user to light a fire in windy or rainy conditions, making it perfect for family camping trips. Tinder Box can fully dispose of itself, leaving no wastage behind to create a completely ecofriendly way to start a fire.
Logo
The logo is designed to represent the triangular shape of a fire and also to coincide with the shape of the packaging. In addition, this retains the familiar symbol and representation of a match.
Colour Palette
Continuing the energy of the product, a natural and neutral colour palette has been paired alongside pastel orange to retain the idea of fire from eco-friendly materials.
PACKAGING
The packaging for Tinder box reflects nature and the intricate patterns found in wood. This in turn highlights the natural pattern on the paper, which is made from an array of different recycled paper products. As a result, the packaging acts to tell a story, mirroring the tree rings found in nature.
Tinder Box will be packaged in a fully recycled paper box. The package is 15cm high x 7cm wide x 7 cm length, allowing it to be big enough to light a medium size fireplace.
